iPhone

Well, the iPhone is here. Possibly the most eagerly awaited piece of consumer electronics ever is now available to buy in the UK.

The verdict is, predictably, that it’s not perfect. But the surprise, to those of us used to disappointment anyway, is that it’s good. Very, very good.

And if you can forgive the phone audio quality being a little below par and the incompatibility with third-party software, the only stumbling block left is the price.

It seems a little old-fashioned to mention that the 8GB iPod/mobile hybrid costs a weighty £269 and is available on contracts costing £35, £45 and £55 as these details have been discussed almost as much as the phone itself, so instead it’s worth concentrating on the fact the iPhone is fun.

From the great and almost instantaneous animations to the touch and tilt sensitivity of the iTunes/iPod functions, everything is designed to make it easy and pleasurable to use.

The iPhone has been a runaway success in America and, despite these drawbacks, it’s hard to see this not being repeated over here.
