Arriva has bought Empresa de Blas y Cia for €99.25million.

The deal includes the privately-owned group’s subsidiaries and investments, Greisi SL and Servicios Integrales Bus and Truck.

De Blas also has a 30 percent stake in Intercambiador de Transportes Principie Pio, a transport hub for bus, metro and train services in Madrid.

Strong demand

The deal will increase Arriva's presence and influence in the Spanish capital's transport system and follows the acquisition of the bus company Esfera last year.

Chief Executive David Martin said the deal marks an important step forward.

Arriva’s depot facilities to the southwest of Madrid provide scope for expansion, according to the firm.

De Blas operates about 222 buses and 34 inter-urban routes throughout the city.
