Archos AV700 TV Review

This portable video player/recorder is an upgrade of the already feature packed AV700 PMP, the significant difference being the capacity to watch Freeview digital TV on the move.

While this is obviously the point Archos are trying to emphasise, it’s worth taking note of everything else it can do. First up, it works great as a portable media player.

There’s fantastic playback of MPEG-4 and MP3 files, with crisp visuals, clear sound and well designed software. The 40GB capacity gives enough space – even when storing digital TV this equates to 35 hours – for even the biggest hoarder.

As a portable digital TV however, it excels. The antenna is powerful to give perfect reception in most situations and the 7” display is easy to watch. Even the unit itself feels sturdy and well built. On the other hand battery life is far from perfect, with only three and a half hours when watching digital TV from a full charge. Despite this, even at £399, it’s still well worth the money.
